Alice Hue Chen, M.D., MS, MPH is fellowship-trained in gynecologic oncology. Dr. Chen initially studied computer science before discovering her interest in medicine and graduated from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology. She then completed a Master of Science in Neurobiology at UCSD. Her graduate thesis focused on a novel protein involved in the pathogenesis of ischemic brain injury.
Dr. Chen then earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. She then completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York, where she earned multiple education awards. She subsequently completed further surgical training in the Advanced Pelvic Surgery fellowship program at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Having discovered her calling to help women with gynecologic cancers, she then completed her gynecologic oncology fellowship where she received comprehensive training in complex surgeries as well as in chemotherapy and immunotherapy at the University of Virginia (UVA) in Charlottesville, Virginia. During her fellowship training, she was awarded multiple trainee research grants for her work on endometrial cancer and vulvar dysplasia. She also received a scholarship-supported Master of Public Health degree at UVA.
She strongly believes oncology by its very nature allows its physicians to bear witness to some of the happiest and saddest moments in a patient’s life. She strives daily to be a helping hand, guiding patients through these difficult moments; she simply cannot see herself doing anything else. When not helping patients, Dr. Chen spends her time kickboxing, as she was a former competitive martial artist. She also enjoys hiking, camping, skiing, and gardening.
