Brian D. Hopkins, M.D. is a board-certified urologist committed to providing the highest quality urologic care, with a particular emphasis on advanced surgical treatments. His mission is to ensure that patients receive expert care utilizing the most innovative and effective surgical techniques available.
Dr. Hopkins began his surgical career in private practice in the San Francisco East Bay in 2000. He brings extensive experience and a deep interest in the surgical management of genitourinary cancers—including prostate, kidney, and bladder cancer—as well as advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He also specializes in female pelvic prolapse, urinary incontinence, and complex genitourinary reconstructive procedures.
A high-volume robotic surgeon, Dr. Hopkins was among the earliest adopters of the da Vinci robotic system, integrating it into his practice shortly after FDA approval in 2002. In 2015, he earned additional subspecialty board certification in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS). He frequently serves as a consultant, providing expert second opinions for patients with urologic cancers, urogynologic conditions, and general urologic concerns.
A native of San Diego, California, Dr. Hopkins earned his undergraduate degree in kinesiology-physiology from UCLA. He attended medical school at the University of Southern California (USC), graduating in 1994. He then completed a one-year surgical internship followed by five years of residency training in urology at USC, gaining advanced experience in urologic oncology and urinary tract reconstruction using intestinal segments in patients undergoing bladder removal.
Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Hopkins enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, and extended family. He is passionate about fitness and nutrition, and enjoys cooking, traveling, and being outdoors.
