Nathan Hoekzema, M.D., is a board-certified orthopedic and hand surgeon specializing in disorders of the hand, wrist, and elbow. He earned his medical degree from New York Medical College, where he developed an early interest in upper extremity reconstruction and microsurgery. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic, one of the nation’s premier training programs, followed by advanced fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery at The Philadelphia Hand Center, internationally recognized for its expertise in complex upper limb conditions.
Dr. Hoekzema has extensive clinical experience spanning the full spectrum of hand and elbow pathology, with expertise in complex elbow reconstruction, total elbow replacement, fracture management, and minimally invasive hand surgery, including endoscopic carpal tunnel release. His practice emphasizes restoring function and optimizing outcomes for patients with challenging injuries and degenerative conditions.
An accomplished educator and researcher, Dr. Hoekzema has earned the title of Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at UCSF Fresno, where he directs resident education in hand and upper extremity surgery. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters and is an internationally invited speaker on topics such as elbow instability, ligament reconstruction, and modern techniques in minimally invasive surgery.
